How you and FMC are making a difference

FM6K funds support essential advocacy work

Here is how the 2023 funding was spent…

  • FMC was consulted by the Government before the landmark announcement by the Minister of Health, Mark Holland, of the coming into force of updated screening criteria for sperm and ova donors, which replaces the current men who have sex with men (MSM) deferral policies to ensure that the revised policy is non-discriminatory and scientifically based.
  • FMC received a pledge of support from the Hon. Marci Ien, Minister of Women and Gender Equality, for our advocacy efforts to move on her mandate before the next federal election.
  • FMC launched a petition to address the nationwide disparity in fertility care. Garnering over 5,000 signatures from every province and territory, serving as a robust demonstration of public support for our cause. It was presented in the House of Commons by Dr. Marcus Powlowski, Member of Parliament. It requires a government response by June 17.
  • FMC provided recommendations presented to the House of Commons Health Committee on Women’s Health and Committee on the Status of Women, focusing on Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Committees’ Report on June 3, 2024.
  • FMC submitted a brief for the 2024 Pre-Budget Consultation to the Finance Committee, highlighting fiscal recommendations.
