Our why

6 Million Canadians

6 Million Canadians

1 in 6 Canadians experience reproductive health issues and may need to access fertility care in order to build their family. This translates to approximately 6 million Canadians. Fertility is not only a women’s health issue, it impacts all people, including men, members of the LGBTQ2+ community, and people who choose to start a family on their own.

Fertility treatment is expensive and it is not covered by all provincial health care plans. In Canada, the average cost of a single IVF cycle is $20,000. Many people will require more than one cycle in order to become pregnant and carry a baby to term. For people who need to use a surrogate to build their family, the cost can be upwards of $60,000.

We believe everyone has the right to try to build their family when they want, how they want, and on their own terms without barriers to receiving the medical care and resources they may need.

About us

Support. Education. Advocacy.

Fertility Matters Canada is the only national organization that provides support, information, education, and advocacy to the 6 million Canadians who are struggling to build their family or 16% of the total Canadian population (www.icmartivf.org).

We support all family building and believe everyone deserves the chance to build their family in whichever way works best for them. Fertility is not just a woman’s issue. It impacts men, members of the LGBTQ+ community, couples, and single people. We strive for all Canadians to have access to fertility care that is inclusive and diverse.

Awareness & advocacy

Equal access to care

Only five Canadian provinces provide some sort of public funding for fertility care. In every instance, patients must cover significant costs out of pocket.

Fertility Matters Canada is working hard to increase awareness for those struggling with fertility issues across Canada. We believe everyone should have adequate access to care and have begun working with stakeholders across Canada to advocate for equitable opportunities for modern family building . We believe that everyone has the right to create their families when and how they need to, without barriers to the information and medical care they need to do so.

To make a meaningful difference in the lives of Canadians struggling to build their families, a collaborative approach to fertility includes governments, physicians, businesses, and each of us. (www.fertilitybenefits.ca)
